032 Fat Finger
Situation
Man had a swollen finger. It was Pyogenic Flexor Tenosynovitis.
Background
40 year old man presented with index finger swollen and painful, no
trauma. Clinically diagnosed with Pyogenic Flexor Tenosynovitis.
Antibiotics commenced and had emergency washout in theatre.
Assessment
It wasn’t a minor infection or a soft tissue injury.
Recommendation
Know that Pyogenic Flexor Tenosynovitis is an emergency and usually
needs urgent washout in theatre +- debridement as well as
antibiotics
