081 Lip Local
Situation
Upper lip laceration was repaired using infra-orbital block.
Background
A man presented with a large central upper lip laceration, essentially
bisecting the lip from skin through to mucosa. Bilateral infra-orbital
nerve blocks were done, with lidocaine. This worked very well and the
wound was sutured with absorbable sutures.
Assessment
If the patient needs anaesthetising in the area in the diagram then ask
a competent colleague to do an infra-orbital nerve block. This will
prevent swelling at the wound site from injecting directly into the
wound.

Recommendation
Consider this block in facial injuries.
